Concrete Poetry Workshop for Teens

We will create poetry on typewriters in the style of Concrete Poetry (or Visual Poetry) – where how the words appear on the page contribute to the meaning of the poem. (Notable practitioners of this genre include Guillaume Apollinaire, Stephane Mallarme, ee cummings, and Barry Spacks, among others.)

There will be lots of vintage typewriters to try out, several examples of Concrete Poetry, unique paper to type on, and a wide selection of art supplies to decorate the page. The Library is interested in creating a display of finished pieces (for those willing to share their work). The workshop will be held in the Library’s new Tech Lab, which we will re-name the Low Tech Lab for the afternoon…. Hosted by┬áSimon Kiefer.
